For almost all production work, we recommend that you use the stable version. Scribus has been translated into more than 25 languages, and more are coming in the future. It enables professionals to design newsletters, magazines, print advertisements, brochures, calendars and more by editing text, designs and photos. Scribus is available for many operatings systems and comes in basically two flavors, stable and development. The file format is XML-based, allowing for even damaged documents to be recovered with a simple text editor. It's also the last one in the 1.4.x series. It's more than 10 years old and you should probably not install or use it anymore. The 10+ years old stable Scribus Scribus 1.4.8 is the latest stable release. Scribus includes many useful features, such as powerful vector drawing tools, support for a huge number of file types via import/export filters, emulation of color blindness, or the rendering of markup languages like LaTeX or Lilypond inside Scribus. For the documentation, you will probably need to activate the 'Non Free' Repository. ![]() It supports many quality publishing features, such as CMYK colors, spot color support, ICC color management, and versatile PDF creation. Scribus is now completely cross-platform and runs natively on Linux/Unix, Mac OS X, OS/2 Warp 4, eComStation, and Windows. You can make your PDF documents even more 'intelligent' by using Javascript from within Scribus. Scribus is also a great tool for authoring PDF documents with advanced features such as forms, buttons, passwords, and more. Scribus will help design and produce magazines, newsletters, print advertising, brochures, calendars, and pretty much anything that requires text to look visually appealing on paper. ![]()
